The enemy is not outside but inside, the mind is made up of thoughts that we identity with, and the power of those thoughts is directly proportional to how we identify with each of them. This creates the idea of two selfs, the first is the original self and the other is the learned self from all the thoughts we have identified with. No amount of self improvement applied to the learned self can make up for the lack of self acceptance.
The secret of a samurai is simply this, first we must learn to accept ourselves wholly and completely before we can every hope to experience our original self, your soul. Your personality or learned self will never be ready to do your souls work.
